For the next two blogposts in this series, I want to continue to concentrate on the ways each DISC Style can improve their Use of Time. These suggestions vary greatly depending on what DISC Style we are considering. Let’s take the High S-Style person today.
As a quick review, the High S-Style’s tendencies are:
- Dependable
- Steady
- Persistent
- Extremely patient
- Cooperative – a great Team Player
- Focuses on people
- Often has a slower “motor” – walks slower, talks slower, thinks slower
Not surprisingly, then, the S-Style’s Approach to Time includes:
- A more long-term perspective
- The desire to make a plan, then how to best implement that plan
- The tendency to think about the plan too much before actually starting
- The freight train that takes longer to get started, but once they build up speed, are unstoppable.
- A tendency to overestimate the amount of work something will take, then they get overwhelmed, which can slow them down and even paralyze their efforts
- Prefers the Team Approach to deal with time and assignments
So, for the S-Style to Improve their use of Time:
- They especially need to make a plan and know how best to implement that plan
- Be careful of over-thinking the planning process
- It is important to get to the implementing phase
- They need to constantly remind themselves: “Just DO IT!”
- Get help or delegate when the work or process becomes overwhelming
It has now been two years since we broke ground on our new house in Kansas. With my High S-Style tendencies, I’ve ended up with a serious set of binders, files, charts, lists and of course, organized statements of our progress. But when I see the above bullet points of how an S-Style can improve their use of Time, it brings to mind some of the rabbit holes I pursued in our building process.
I hope this Review and these Suggestions have also given you some practical insights and help, whether you are the High S-Style or live or work with one.
