So far in our focus on Listening, we have reviewed the D-Style’s and the I-Style’s tendencies. This week we’ll review the S-Style’s listening inclinations.
[Please note that most people are a combination of two or three styles, but one style is usually the strongest.]
Because the S-Style is my strongest, I was interested to see how much I agreed with the points Extended DISC made in their Listening Webinar. They were shockingly accurate! So I thank them for sharing these important insights.
Remember – the S-Style person is:
- Dependable
- Persistent
- Steady
- Cooperative
- A great team player
It would logically follow, then, that the strengths of their listening style would include:
- Patient and “long listeners”
- Attentive and fully present with the person who is talking
- Typically won’t interrupt but will wait to speak, sometimes not responding at all
In keeping with this tendency, items to improve an S-Style’s listening skills might include:
- Be careful not to focus on the negatives or what could possibly go wrong
- Remember to voice an opinion
- Be sure to provide feedback
- Be brave and speak honestly
