In my workshop presentation, after we discuss the DISC Style Basics, I include a part that starts with “Be Who You Are”. As I wrote last week’s blogpost about Letting My High I-Style Fun Part Out, I wanted to follow it up with a few weeks talking about the importance of being who you are, and of the challenge of Squelchers and Squelchees.
I believe deeply that each of us was “knit together in our mother’s womb” (Psalm 139), created specifically and purposefully. If we choose to ignore that design, or allow others to “squelch” it, we cannot fulfill all we were created to be and to do.
Another part of my workshop talks about putting people in their ideal places in an office – and focuses on “Don’t Settle for Less Than You Were Designed to Do”. I would also modify that to say, “Don’t Settle for Less Than You Were Designed to Be”. After all, as the saying goes, we are Human Beings, not Human Doings!
So over the next couple weeks, I’ll go into more regarding “Squelchers and Squelchees”. But for this week, I want to encourage you to give some time and thought to your unique design, how specific it is, how precious it is, and what tremendous value you have as the person you are.
QUESTION: Have you ever seriously considered the importance of “being who you are”? What would change if you did pursue this goal? I’d love to hear your thoughts and observations. Please share in the comment section below.
