This month, we are looking at each DISC Style and their unique responses to stress as well as practical hints on how to best alleviate that stress. So far, we have covered the “in-charge-do-it-now” High D-Style, the “fun-loving-people-focused” High I Style and the “super-patient-team-player” High S-Style. Perhaps this has been your experience (since I have a number of orthodontists/dentists who read this blog) – a new patient comes into your office, convinced they want braces, but extremely anxious about the process. Every interaction with them is met with a multitude of questions. These are essential to answer for this probable High C-Style patient.
As a short reminder, the High C-Style is:
- Is conscientious
- Likes procedures
- Focuses on tasks and details
- Often doesn’t mind working alone
- Is precise
- Prefers a systematic approach
- Often has a slower “motor” – walks slower, thinks and talks slower
When a High C-Style encounters Stress, their response is often to:
- Question everything
- Be overly prudent
- Withdraw
- Fear the worst
To alleviate that Stress, the C-Style could:
- Get more information
- Clarify their role in the situation
- Ask good questions
- Improve the procedures or systems being used
