Focus on the Details – How a High C-Style Prefers Others Communicate with Them

So far, we’ve looked at the ways the High D-Style, High I-Style and High S-Style people prefer that others communicate with them. If you missed these, just click here.

This week, as we focus on the details-focused High C-Style person, once again, their communication preferences are vastly different.

Many years ago, I worked as the New Patient Staff person in our orthodontic office. I certainly wish I would have known then what I know now about the preferences of each DISC Style. For example, I still remember one time when we met with a patient and parents, all High C’s, for their initial visit and diagnosis.  We gave them lots of information during this appointment, but we were just scratching the surface for these High C folks. They had many excellent questions, all delving into the specifics and the process we would use to treat their son. Even as we answered their questions, more would come to their minds. It was critically important to understand their need to have their questions answered in detail.

First, as a reminder, the High C-Style person tends to:

  • Be conscientious
  • Like procedures
  • Focus on tasks and details
  • Often doesn’t mind working alone
  • Be precise
  • Be systematic
  • Have a slower “motor” – walk slower, think and talk slower

Not surprisingly then, they appreciate this kind of communication from others:

  • Present ideas or thoughts in detail
  • Give clear reasons
  • Define processes and systems that would be used
  • Have clear direction

All these points will make it easier for the High C-Style person to listen well and stay focused on what others are trying to say to them.
