The DISC System can apply to almost any area – how we behave – communication, motivation, job preferences and roles, stress, relationships, etc. Having this awareness allows us to plan and prepare on how to be more effective.
Not surprisingly, our DISC Style can also affect how we perceive Time. So far in this series on DISC Styles and Time, we’re reviewed the High D-Style and the High I-Style’s approach to Time. To review either of those blogposts, just click here.
Since the S-Style is my other strong Style, I identify with the list below of how an S-Style deals with Time and am often susceptible to the weaknesses as well. It is helpful to often review this list as I approach my use of Time.
As a review, the High S-Style’s tendencies:
- Dependable
- Steady
- Persistent
- Extremely patient
- Cooperative – a great Team Player
- Focuses on people
- Often has a slower “motor” – walks slower, talks slower, thinks slower
S-Style and their approach to Time:
- They have more of a long-term perspective
- They want to make a plan, and know how to best implement that plan
- But they may think about it too much before actually starting
- They need to “Just Do It!”
- Often overestimate the amount of work something will take
- Can feel overwhelmed, which can slow them down and even paralyze their efforts
- They are like a freight train that takes longer to get started, but once they build up speed, are unstoppable
