It’s been a delightful week of Feasting and Gratitude. Our gathering of 24 extended family spanned from the youngest at 2 years old to our eldest at 97. It included the watching of football and playing of football and a ridiculous number of pies. My children and husband kept telling me, “You’re making too many pies!!” But I was having such a fun time cooking…
The Gratitude piece included much giving of thanks – please read George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation that I shared last week – as well as much thanks to and for each other. There are few things as precious to me as eyeball-to-eyeball Family Time – playing together, cooking together, talking together, laughing together, sharing life together. I soaked it into my soul.
Now December is upon us. In my family, we celebrate Christmas all month long. In fact, in our Denver neighborhood, we have an “assumed agreement” that we leave our Christmas lights up and turned on through the end of the National Western Stock Show that runs from January 3rd to 23rd.
That is a LOT of celebrating – as is fitting for the most important event in human history – as Jesus left His high station in Heaven and humbled Himself to be born as a baby on earth. Joy to the World indeed!!
This is the bedrock foundation in my life. My constant goal is for this to:
- Inform everything I do
- Influence my choices and decisions
- Inspire my efforts and service
One choice I’ve decided to pursue this year is to take a break for the rest of December and focus on celebrating this special season. So I will look forward to writing again in January.
Wishing you each a very Merry CHRISTmas and an excellent year ahead in 2022.
QUESTION: Have you ever considered making a goal important enough to focus on it for a whole month? I’d love to hear your thoughts and observations. Please share in the comment section below.
