How Does the I-Style Person View Time?

Last week, we focused on how the D-Style uniquely views Time. If you’d like to read that blogpost, just click here.

This week, we have the High I-Style. I can certainly identify with these details as the High I-Style is one of my two strongest. I also see myself in the ways I love to bounce around between projects and have a harder time working through the “messy middle” to finish them. And I always have time for Play! It’s something I constantly have to be aware of and address.

My mom had a lot of I-Style in her, too, and had a unique way of viewing Time. When she said, “I’ll be ready in 5 minutes!” she could mean anything from 2 minutes to 20 minutes. We started using the abbreviation, MST, which stood for Mother’s Standard Time. We sure got a lot of chuckles out of it when we were growing up.

Whether you are a writer, teacher, parent, dentist, or any other occupation, if you have lots of I-Style in you, do these tendencies describe you?

The High I-Style person tends to:

  • Be fun-loving, a “party looking for a place to happen”
  • Focus on people more than on tasks
  • Have a “faster speed motor”
  • Be more outgoing – an extrovert
  • Be very persuasive
  • Have a positive attitude – usually sees the jar half full
  • Have lots of enthusiasm

So for a High I-Style, their view of Time can include these tendencies:

  • They are Active individuals – time is for doing things and having fun
  • They tend to have a short-term perspective on Time – they want the end result quickly so they can celebrate the successful outcome
  • That Time is not an exact science, there is a lot of “give” to it
  • The opportunity for Play can be a Siren Call on their Time
