Update on Leaving Home to Go Home

About eight months ago, I wrote on “Leaving Home to Go Home” and the process we were beginning of building a new house in Kansas, 584 miles from where we currently live in Denver. My husband ended up doing most of the traveling back and forth to continue with his job, while I stayed in Kansas to keep eyes on the project.

This week, they completed the outside concrete, finished hooking up the plumbing, laid the inside carpet and installed more of the bathroom light fixtures. It’s definitely looking like home.

During that time, I’ve been delighted to honor the permission I got from Dr. Charles Boyd to share the invaluable insights from his excellent book, Different Children, Different Needs. We have covered both the Adult and Child combinations for each DISC Style as well as the Adult and Teen Combinations. If you’d like to see these, they are available on my website: https://idealpersonidealplace.com/blog/

Now comes the arduous task of getting the Denver house ready to sell, packing it up and moving to our new Kansas house. On a good day, this is nothing for the faint-hearted. But add into that our ages (in our 70’s), and the fact that I’ve had Long COVID for the last 8 months and am still struggling with the extreme weakness and exhaustion that goes with it.

I’m a big believer in “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” And “Nothing is impossible with God.” And I know He is saying, step by step, inch by inch.

During this time, I also want to continue faithfully writing and sharing a blogpost each week as I’ve done for the last 222 weeks.

There is a plan for the summer blogposts as well as the fall, so I’m looking forward to delving into that plan next week.

But for now, we have safely driven the 560 miles again to Colorado, to be greeted by the majestic mountains still standing sentinel over Denver. It is time to meet with the realtor and the moving company and face my approximately 10,000 books that need to be sorted, shared, or donated, then take my favorites to Kansas. How do you get rid of 5000 “old friends?”

In the same vein, how do you say goodbye to people who have become so very dear and precious to you in the last 20 years? We have a wonderful neighborhood, church, Sunday School, work colleagues and sets of friends we’ve build relationships with over these 20 years. That is a much bigger issue and process than sorting through books.

Alongside all this, it will be a delightful diversion to write a weekly blogpost, based on the DISC System, that utilizes insights and applications for it.

I hope you will find that these blogposts will give you something helpful to think about and put into practice.

Blessings, especially on whatever transition times are in your future,

Beth
