For the last couple months, we talked about how each DISC Style prefers to communicate. Please see the blogposts on my website, www.idealpersonideealplace.com/blog from 7/2/24 to 8/13/24 if you want a refresher.
For the next month or so, we will look the other side of that communication coin:
How does each DISC Style want others to communicate with them?
Let’s begin with the High D-Style person.
First, as a reminder, the High D-Style person tends to:
- Like to be in control
- Focus on tasks more than on people
- Have a “high speed motor”
- Be decisive – sometimes without researching the facts
- Get things done quickly
- Be authoritative
- Take charge in a situation
Not surprisingly then, they appreciate communication from others that is:
- Direct – no beating around the bush
- Concise – less is more
- Focused on goals or tasks – this will perk up their ears
- Minimal in rabbit trails, long stories or emotional dramatics
- And know that it is fine to disagree – most will welcome “knocking heads”
All of these points will make it easier for the High D-Style person to listen well and truly hear what others are trying to say to them.
My husband, a pure High D-Style, loves to tell the story of being on a committee with two of his closest friends who were also High D-Style. It always amazed their fellow committee members how these three guys could heatedly discuss and disagree, then leave the meeting laughing and chatting and making plans on how to get together for lunch later in the week.
QUESTION: Does the importance of knowing how best to communicate with each Style resonate with you? I’d love to hear your thoughts and observations. Please share in the comment section below.
