People Withdrawal and Other Side Effects of the End of Family Vacation Time

The DISC System fascinates me! I have learned from its usefulness in a myriad of situations. It is interesting to apply it to Family Vacation, especially as we end our time together.

As a quick review of each DISC Style, think of someone (maybe it’s you) who:

  • D – Has to TAKE CHARGE
  • I – Always ADDS FUN
  • S – Is so very PATIENT
  • C – Loves the DETAILS

To expand on these descriptions:

  • D-Style: Gets things done, is decisive and authoritative
  • I-Style: Is enthusiastic, outgoing, positive and persuasive
  • S-Style: Is steady, dependable, cooperative and patient
  • C-Style: Likes procedures, is systematic, precise and conscientious

If I observe the family as we end our Vacation Time:

  • D-Style: seeks to make sure we are organized and getting in all the activities we planned
  • I-Style: trying to get in all the “party” and fun activities possible before “Vacation Withdrawal” sets in
  • S-Style: looking for those opportunities for good 1:1 talk times and trying to get in a nap; experiences severe People Withdrawal
  • C-Style: focused on the number of meals left compared to the amount of food available and how to make it “come out even”

How each DISC Style is Renewed also comes strongly into play during vacation. As we near the end of our time together, there is an underlying “pressure” to accomplish these renewing aspects:

  • D-Style: Physical activities
  • I-Style: Fun people time
  • S-Style: Rest and 1:1 talk time
  • C-Style: Quiet alone time (definitely a challenge during Family Vacation)

If you want more insight on how your DISC Style needs to be replenished and restored, I’ve written a short mini e-book, “It’s Time for Self-Renewal: How to Know the Best Steps to Renew Yourself – DISC Style”. Just click on this link for more information.

I’ll be back on August 6th as we continue looking at how each DISC Style prefers to communicate. Meanwhile, I hope you schedule some Renewal Time for yourself.

QUESTION: How do you respond to the end of Family Time Together? I’d love to hear your thoughts and observations. Please share in the comment section below.
