As you may tend to do, I have a propensity to push myself, enjoy activities with family and friends, then try to get that one more item done on my ever-present To Do List… and keep going… and keep going… until I crash.
As a review, the S-Style person is:
- Dependable
- Persistent
- Tender-hearted
- Slower paced
- Cooperative
- People-oriented
- Patient
- Steady
- A great team player
One of my goals as a High S-Style person is to do a much better job of listening to my body and stop when it says, “STOP!” Often, just 10 minutes of putting my feet up in the recliner gives me the personal recharging I need.
So what renews an S-Style person is: REST AND SLEEP!
Other possible activities that would renew an S-Style:
- A good talk with a friend
- A nap in a hammock on a warm summer day
- Sitting and reading
- Covering up with a warm blanket in a recliner on a cold day
- The quiet, gentle challenge of a jigsaw or crossword puzzle
- Reading a story aloud to a child
- Quiet time at a beach listening to the waves roll in
- Early to bed to get a great night of sleep
But self-renewal can also get tricky. For example, when my children and grandchildren with boundless energy are excited to have special fun times together, followed by more fun times together, followed by even MORE fun times together… I can get caught up in all that fun and forget my body requires rest in between.
***Bottom line – I want to encourage you to make self-renewal a daily habit that is planned into your routine. Your emotional well-being and best self is worth it! Next week, we will cover the C-Style. If you want to see the Self-Renewal ideas for the other three Styles, please click here for my short but insightful $5 e-book, “It’s Time for Self-Renewal: How to Know the best Steps to Renew Yourself – DISC Style.”
QUESTION: If you fit the S-Style, or know someone who does, how does it help you (or them) to renew yourself with rest and sleep? I’d love to hear your thoughts and observations. Please share in the comment section below.
